DESCRIPTION

PowerSlice™ is a 1U rack mounted 12VDC power supply system with a 24AHr internal LiFePO4 battery pack. The run-time can be extended by connecting an external 610Duo block battery. The battery prioritizer circuit will automatically switch input sources to maintain the 12VDC output. As soon as AC power is plugged in, the internal battery will be charged at a maximum current of 12A. The 12VDC output is active while the battery is charging.

The AC/DC power supply can provide a maximum current of 20A. So if the battery charge current is 12A, there is 8A available at the outputs. If the outputs take more than 8A, the charger circuit will automatically reduce the charging current to give the outputs more current. If the battery is fully charged all of the 20A is available at the outputs.

BATTERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (BMS)

OSE’s BMS is an in-house designed and built circuit to capture key battery parameters such as voltage, current and temperature to maintain the internal battery pack health and safety. The system allows the AC to be left plugged in indefinitely so the battery will not be overcharged or damaged.

The BMS measures the battery pack temperature and turns off current if the temperature is outside of safe limits. Acceptable charging temperature range is: +32F to +113F (0C to 45C). Acceptable discharging temperature range is: +14F to +131F (-10C to +55C). Normal operation will resume once the temperature returns to a safe level.

BATTERY STATUS DISPLAY

The quad-mode Battery Status display is unique to the PowerSlice. The screen will display 4 different properties of the internal battery. These are Voltage, Current in/out, Amp-Hours remaining and Percentage of remaining charge. The internal electronics contain a coulomb counter which tracks the actual current flow into and out of the battery. This is the most accurate method of tracking the actual state of charge in the battery.

INTERNAL BATTERY PROTECTION

The PowerSlice is protected from short circuit and overload conditions by multiple internal circuit features as well as the AC input fuse and the battery charger fuse (not user accessible). If a short circuit occurs and the internal protection feature is tripped the system will shutdown. Unplug all outputs and connect the AC power.  This will reset the system back to normal operation.

ON/OFF BUTTON MODES

PowerSlice ON button - green mode

The On/Off button turns GREEN while the internal battery is powering the output. The LED will blink slowly while the battery voltage is above 75%. The blink rate will double after the voltage falls to between 75% - 25%. The blinking will double again after the voltage falls below 25%.

PowerSlice ON button red mode

The On/Off button will turn RED while the output is powered by an external battery. The blink rate is the same as the green display.

The On/Off button will turn BLUE while the unit is contected to AC power. The internal battery will charge and the DC output will be powered by the internal AC/DC power supply. The blue LED will not blink.

The On/Off button will turn WHITE when the battery voltage has fallen below the minimum range. The minimum internal battery voltage is approximately 10.2V. The DC outputs are turned off at this level. The unit must be plugged into an AC source or an external battery to resume operation.

BATTERY STATUS DISPLAY

PowerSlice amp display

Press the Battery Status selector button to turn on the display. This window displays the real-time current flow in/out of the internal battery. When the battery is charging this displays the current into the internal battery. The unit does not need to be turned on for the status display to operate.

PowerSlice amp-hour display

Press the Battery Status again to bring up this display. This displays the current internal battery capacity. The internal battery has a maximum capacity of 24AHr (amp-hours).

PowerSlice voltage display

Press the Battery Status button again to bring up this display. This displays the internal battery’s voltage.

PowerSlice percentage display

Press the Battery Status button again to bring up this display. This displays the percentage of remaining capacity of the internal battery. The range is 0-100%.
